Colin Allred — More Spending, More Borrowing, and More Debt

HOUSTON — Colin Allred’s time in the U.S. House of Representatives can be summarized by a culmination of votes that work against hard-working Texans. His voting record on economic policies is no different.

COLIN ALLRED’S DISASTROUS ECONOMIC RECORD

  • Allred has voted twice against an effort to prohibit Presidents from unilaterally banning fracking, an industry that created 1.7 million jobs, increased wages, and benefited local economies. Such a ban could increase energy costs for the Average American family by 14%.

  • Allred voted and sided with Joe Biden’s ban on LNG exports.
  • Colin Allred voted for the final passage of H.R. 1319, a $1.9 trillion stimulus package.
  • Colin Allred voted for the final passage of H.R. 133, a bill that contained $1.4 trillion in continuing appropriations and $900 billion related to COVID-19 spending

  • Allred voted for a $1.7 trillion bill.

  • Allred voted yes to suspending the debt ceiling, and roughly $6.5 trillion was borrowed in that time.

  • Colin Allred voted yes to a short-term debt ceiling increase of $480 billion.

  • Colin Allred voted yes to increasing the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion to $31.4 trillion

  • Allred voted for H.R. 3746. With the CBO’s projection of 5.8% deficits compared to GDP in 2023, 2024, and 2025, the U.S. can expect to add roughly $1.5 trillion in debt annually through the expiration of the debt ceiling suspension.

  • In 2019, Allred voted yes on H.Res. 6, the Democrats’ House rules package, which included the reinstatement of the Gephardt Rule, which allows for the debt ceiling to be increased without any congressional vote.

  • Allred has publicly opposed the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act despite the fact that the 2017 GOP tax cuts saved the average family in his district (TX-32) over $3,300.

A Cruz Campaign spokesperson issued the following statement.

“Colin Allred’s approach to economics can be summed up in three basic principles: Spend more, borrow more, and build up more debt for the American people. He opposed legislation that would have saved his constituents thousands of dollars, has repeatedly supported legislation that will increase our nation’s debt, and everything in between.

“It’s surprising to see him campaign on knowing what it’s like to struggle in a poor economy when he’s voted repeatedly for laws that work against the middle class and everyday, hard-working Americans. But then again, that’s Colin Allred for you — a candidate who will stop at nothing to deceive Texas voters and hide his true colors.”
