HOUSTON — Yesterday, Sen. Cruz received the Laredo key to the city. This makes him the first Republican to receive the honor.
The Laredo Morning Times reported on this historic achievement, writing the following.
“U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas visited the Gateway City during election season to accept Laredo’s Key to the City for his work expediting the presidential permit for the World Trade Bridge expansion.
“Hosted by the Laredo Chamber of Commerce at La Posada Hotel, Laredo Mayor Victor Trevino presented the Key to the City to the senator in honor of his work and bipartisan effort to expedite the presidential permitting of bridges between Texas and Mexico.
“Also in attendance were Gov. Samuel García of Nuevo León and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, who spoke about collaboration and working together to get the job done…
“‘They were delaying those bridges for three, four, five years,’ Cruz said. ‘A delegation from the city of Laredo asked me to help, asked me to lead the effort, and I told them I was proud to do so.’
“Cruz said he worked with Cuellar hand in hand, in a bipartisan effort, and they were able to draft legislation, pass it through the House of Representatives and have it signed into law in December 2023.
“Cruz said the legislation could help Texas farmers, ranchers, small businesses and consumers. He briefly mentioned another bipartisan effort involving Interstate Highway 27, which would start in Laredo and extend to Montana.”
A Cruz Campaign spokesperson issued the following statement.
“Senator Cruz was honored to be the first Republican to receive the key to the city of Laredo, TX. Colin Allred loves to talk about his ‘bipartisan’ chops, but in all reality, he doesn’t have any. He’s a radical Democrat who is hoping to serve as Chuck Schumer’s next puppet. There is one truly bipartisan candidate in this race, and it’s now clearer than ever that it’s not Allred.”
